I have added this section to add some clarity as to what I do and what I don't. If there are any unanswered queries, please do contact me on the contact section!
What I do
I am primarily a church organist - I play week by week in my main position as a liturgical organist at Holy Cross Church, Uckfield. Aside from my work there, I am often called upon to play for funerals, and at certain times of year, weddings and other functions.
I play most of the standard repertoire called upon for such occasions as mentioned above - I can often accommodate some requests outside my repertoire, given due notice.
I can be called upon to play for some services outside my duties - but more often than not on Sundays I am busy in my church position - but there are occasional times I am free.
I sometimes give organ recitals! Currently only about four a year, but I like to do a few as they keep me on toes with my organ repertoire! Please do ask if you'd like me to give a recital. I play anything from Bach to Indiana Jones!
Choir rehearsals - I am happy to come and run a rehearsal for you. I'm quite a taskmaster, but many people find my rehearsals 'to the point' and I believe in using time effectively, and getting the best out of any choir - whether you are forty-strong or a small group of singers. I've had good feedback from choirs I've worked with - give me a try!
Singers / Instrumentalists - I really enjoy working with other musicians - if you plan to have a relative or other musician sing or perform at a ceremony, do let me know - I am more than happy to rehearse with them (it will often be on the same day as the engagement). I can sometimes find suitable musicians also.
What I don't do
Choral Societies - I am a liturgical organist. We often have short notice changes, but experience has taught me to stay away from you. Sorry!
If you are thinking of booking me for a wedding - I don't play pop songs on the organ. Would you have the DJ at your reception playing Brahms or Mozart at the party? No. Just as I won't play pop music in a church setting.
Being messed about. Please don't e-mail me asking me to play for your ceremony and how much it will cost you, only to not get back to me after I've replied to you. I therefore ask that if you require me, I need confirmation within 30 days of your enquiry. Musicians like myself are only available because people pay us realistic fees. If we didn't, we'd have to seek other work and be otherwise unavailable (although 'Auntie Flo can play for nothing')! Consider my fee in relation to the cost of your wedding cake, and it puts it into perspective! I've got a house to pay for and a table to put food on - just a cautionary note!
